The Linear Assets product requires a different thinking to the tradition Location Hierarchy breakdown, as by their very nature, Linear assets can span great distances, so it can be impossible to pidgeon hole them into a "location".

The use of Linear has removed the need to "break down" the assets into segments that would have been necessary using the traditional location hierarchy structure.
